Parejo becomes latest captain to lift the cup
At 11:05pm in Seville, Dani Parejo lifted his first trophy as a Valencia CF player, to the delight of the fans. The Copa del Rey trophy was collected by the VCF captain, following in the footsteps of Rubén Baraja and Carlos Marchena, who had donw likewise in 2008.
Parejo is the latest in a long line of Valencia CF captains to lead his side to glory in the Copa del Rey, joining the likes of the 1999 winners Mendieta, ‘Piojo’ López and Camarasa.
In 1979, it was Pepe Carrete who held the trophy aloft. In 1967 it was Roberto Gil -captain for 7 seasons. Salvador Monzó did so in 1954, and in 1949 it was Mundo, whilst Juan Ramón was the very first to accept a Copa del Rey trophy on VCF's behalf in 1941.
